Increased Published Admission Numbers

Northern Education Trust Thorp Academy is proposing to increase its Published Admission Numbers (PAN) from 240 to 270 for all year groups with effect from 1st September 2020.

The rationale for this is:

  • The Academy has seen increased numbers in all year groups and Year 7 requests over the past four years have increased with the expectation that the academy will have more than 240 requests for places in September 2020 and will therefore be oversubscribed.
  • The Academy has a funding agreement with the Department for Education based on 1511 students and has the physical capacity to increase.
  • As part of Gateshead Council’s plans to build 10,000 new homes by 2030, the catchment area population is currently expanding due to new housing developments.

In increasing its PAN, Thorp Academy would also help to support the need for additional secondary school places in Gateshead.
